Aashish Nanak, $500, 000, online toernooi,

8-jarige wint $500,000 ??

An 8 year old boy from Chandigarh, India is in trouble with the law for winning 22,912,500.38 Indian Rupees, approx $500,000, in an online Poker Tournament.  Aashish Nanak is a computer genius at the tender age of 8.  He began using computers after his mother used to place him, from the age of three, in front of a computer while she worked as a hotel cleaner.

Mrs Nanak said,'He has always loved the internet and computers he started his own web pages when he was only four years old, he is a very clever boy” Aashish has been playing online poker since he was six, but had been using computers since age three. He was introduced to the internet when his mother who cleans at a local hotel, had sat him in front of a cartoon playing on a computer screen to keep him quiet.'

The poker company in question, which can't be named, is refusing to payout the money as it states that the boy was not legally entitled to play poker.  Lawyers for the family are saying that it does not state that Aasish cannot play under his uncles details.  Aasish is thought to be a natural poker player by family and friends.  If the family win the court case and are awarded the money from the gambling company then the family really will become Slumdog Millionaires.  The average salary in India is about $1740 so getting $500,000 will make their dreams come true.

As the case continues, the court has been hearing accounts from hotel guests claiming ‘the youngster was making enough money through a series of affiliate programs to pay his families rent.’

However, what has really caused a storm is that Aashish apparently started getting interested in online poker aged six, and had clocked up some smaller winnings before hitting gold and taking down a $500,000 online poker tournament.

It would seem Aashish Nanak’s uncle may have had some involvement in facilitating his nephew’s interest in the game, and aside from the huge sum being won on his uncle’s account, Aashish apparently had a number of smaller winnings paid into a legitimate online paypal account set-up for him by his uncle.

Grappig verhaal.
